Expanded Silicone

Expanded Silicone

Expanded silicone is a porous elastomeric material obtained by adding expanding agents to silicone, which form gas bubbles during the vulcanization process, resulting in a closed or open cell structure.

Unlike solid silicone, expanded silicone has a lower density and greater compressibility.

  • Physical Properties: The cellular structure of expanded silicone gives it lightness, flexibility, and good compressibility.
  • Thermal Resistance: Similar to solid silicone, it withstands temperatures from -55°C to +200°C, making it suitable for applications requiring thermal insulation.
  • Weather Resistance: Excellent resistance to UV, ozone, and other weathering agents, maintaining integrity over time.
  • Compression Properties: High ability to return to its original shape after compression, useful for seals and expansion joints.

The main applications of expanded silicone products made by Tecnoextr are:

  • Electronics Industry: As seals in electronic equipment to protect against dust and moisture.
  • Building and Thermal Insulation: For sealing and insulation in buildings, both for windows and ventilated facades.
  • Lighting Sector: For seals and insulation of indoor and outdoor lighting fixtures.
  • Food Sector: Gaskets, rings, and profiles for containers intended for food use.
